Sound Engineering Program

Ackerman’s Music Center is proud to announce we have started a Sound Engineering Program!

The program consists of a 50 minute weekly instruction for music enthusiasts who are looking to be a part of the creative music process that involves recording in the studio as well as live events.

  • The program will cover:

    • Introduction to Pro-Tools recording software.

    • The application of microphones used in recording the various instruments associated with recording pop, rock, jazz, and heavy metal.

    • Understanding amplifiers, mixers and other cutting edge electronic equipment associated with sound recording.

    • Recording vocals.

    • Learning how to mix and master tracks.

    • Creating tracks for songs of various types.

The course is taught individually but some projects will be assigned to groups of students to teach planning, organization and teamwork.

  • The program is open to people of all ages with a minimum age of 12.

Ability to play a musical instrument is a plus but not a requirement.

  • Tuition is $540 per month

A three month tuition package is also available at $1458 per three months.

  • Interested students can call the store at 201-546-6880 to schedule an initial half hour session with Mr. Torres that is free of charge. This trial session is designed to introduce the student to the basic skill set that is required of all sound engineers.

Popular Violin Program

We are pleased to announce that Brian Purwin will be joining Ackerman’s Music as our new teacher in the Popular Violin Program here at Ackerman’s Music.

Brian has extensive training, having studied at the New England Conservatory and The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Improvisation. In addition, Brian has a wealth of commercial violin playing experience, having performed in major concert venues including Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, the Grand Ole Opry, Madison Square Garden, and other notable venues.

  • Brian will be covering all the basics, as well as developing the student's sound quality, sense of pitch, bow technique, and repertoire.

With regard to repertoire, Brian will also teach students how to apply basic techniques to real-world playing by introducing them to a variety of styles of music, including classical, jazz, the American Songbook, bluegrass, rock, and contemporary music that young people are listening to today.

The violin is an instrument of incredible flexibility and range. Ackerman’s Popular Violin Program will train and develop students to fully participate in today’s music. There is something for everyone in the world of the violin!

  • Interested students can call the store at 201-546-6880 to schedule a free trial lesson.
